Year over year

Year over year means comparing the statistics of a particular period with the same period of the previous year. The period can be an entire year, or a specific month, or any range between two different dates.
The advantage of year over year comparisons is that they provide a representative picture of the progress (or regression) made without the influence of trend fluctuations, such as the time of year or the number of days in a month. When comparing periods of a month or longer, the possible influence of the number of working days or weekends in the compared period is also reduced.
