Gravatar
A Gravatar is an image that gives a face to your online identity. The term Gravatar stands for "Globally Recognized Avatar. Where you normally have to create an avatar for every platform, account and service, Gravatar makes this simple. Gravatar allows you to create a one-time avatar that all websites can use to fill out your profile, loading the same image and personal information on all the posts you make.
This universal avatar can be linked via WordPress to any platform needed. Since 2007, Gravatar has been a standard part of the WordPress platform. The main advantage of this feature is that users do not have to create a new profile for each website. In addition, it has the advantage for the webmaster that user information can be loaded directly from the Gravatar server via a simple script.
Linking WordPress and Gravatar
As a user, Gravatar can provide better online visibility. If someone regularly publishes blog articles and/or posts comments on online content, Gravatar makes for a good whole. Because everything you post online is easily traced back to one account, it is easier to show authority in a particular online area. Add Gravatar to your WordPress with the following steps:
- Go to the WordPress dashboard, click on 'Settings' and then 'Comments'
- Scroll down until the 'Avatars' heading becomes visible
- Finally, click Gravatar under the 'Default avatar' section and click save changes
First, create a Gravatar via Gravatar.com. This can then be easily linked to your WordPress and other accounts. Each time you post, all the information from your Gravatar account is then automatically posted. Multiple plugins are available through Gravatar for common content management and blogging systems. So you can easily link everything you need for your Gravatar on the site.
