Scrum
When your team works with the scrum methodology, you increase agility to best meet the needs of the end user and target audience. In scrum, instead of writing plans, you go through "sprints. These sprints are called events in the scrum guide and give the process structure. In scrum, you deliver working products on short notice and are in constant dialogue with your team about the results achieved. From these results, new products can also be developed.
Scrum tools
During the scrum process, there are a number of tools you can make use of:
- Product backlog - Priority list of characteristics and requirements of the final product translated into concrete intermediate products that is continuously updated
- Sprint backlog - Collection of selected product backlog items for the current sprint that is recreated each sprint. Contains items that provide the most customer value at this time
- Acceptance criteria - Critera established in advance and during the sprint planning to assess the result achieved after the sprint is completed
- Scrum board - Best-known tool of scrum. The scrum board has columns of To Do, Busy and Done. Through the scrum board, the team is always aware of the work that needs to be done and what obstacles exist that need to be addressed in order to achieve the sprint goal
Roles within scrum
There are four established roles within a scrum that work together to achieve the best results:
- Development team - Multidisciplinary, self-organizing team producing up to 80% of the final product
- Product Owner - Closely involved client with product responsibility. The Product Owner sets priorities, maintains contact with stakeholders and translates their wishes on the product backlog
- Scrum Master - Coach the Product Owner and development team for optimal performance. The Scrum Master ensures speed, reflection, overview and monitoring of the process
- Stakeholders - Can be translated to users, decision makers and stakeholder. Their needs are communicated to the Product Owner and during the review of an intermediate product they provide feedback
Advantages of scrum working method
The power of scrum is that you don't waste money unnecessarily on a product or service that has been thought about for years that then flops when it comes to market. With scrum, you watch customer reaction as you release products or services. These can be products, but also designs on social media. With the feedback that awareness brings, you can tweak the design or idea so that it comes to market as a success. Because collaboration is at the center of scrum, there are 5 values that a successful scrum meets: dedication, courage, focus, openness and respect.
