Collectors item

A collectors item is a (potential) collector's item. The item may be desirable for various reasons. For example, because it is a product that was only produced in a limited edition, because the product is no longer available. Examples include comic books, rare stamps and music albums.
Sometimes products are specifically designed and made as collectors' items, such as a commemorative coin struck in a limited edition.
Ordinary items can turn into collectors' items when they are made by a famous person, have been in his or her possession for some time, or bear a signature. The presence of a certificate of authenticity then weighs heavily in determining value.
