Shelf
Also called: store shelf
In retail, a shelf is a shelf within a store rack to place products on. The items on a store shelf are often displayed neatly mirrored to make the shelf look as attractive and filled as possible.
The number of items of the same product on the shelf is primarily matched to demand and available warehouse space for additional inventory. If a store or manufacturer wants a product to sell better, it may choose to allow more shelf width for the product, or to give the product a more visible place within the racking.
The term is also sometimes used colloquially: when products are on the shelf, sales have started and are in full swing.
