Bashing
Bashing is the targeted vilification of individuals, companies or agencies. The literal translation of bashing is bashing or slapping, but in practice the word is used to denote berating, bullying or blackening. The motivation for bashing often consists of discontent or resentment about a particular person, situation or treatment, whether justified or not. In damaging the person or company, details that are completely unrelated to the motivation are often used.
The casualness with which information can be posted on the Internet makes it a platform where bashing is relatively more common than in the rest of everyday life. This is particularly true of social media. In order to prevent a breeding ground for bashing, many organizations nowadays engage in webcare, a service aimed at settling minor complaints neatly before they grow into major dissatisfaction.
