Investor relations
Also known as: IR
Investor relations deals with communication with a company's existing and potential investors and shareholders. Especially companies that are publicly traded have departments that deal with this.
IR informs investors to ensure confidence in the company and how it is managed. Its purpose is to maximize the value of the company and provide and maintain a solid financial position over the long term. An investor is always interested in the prospects for the company and the value and dividend of its shares.
Some activities that fall under investor relations are:
- Issuing financial press releases;
- Publish the annual report in cooperation with the communications, finance and compliance departments. Sometimes semi-annual and quarterly reports are also issued;
- Maintaining individual contacts with (potential) investors, especially large investors;
- Support in managing the corporate website, which includes information intended for investors and the media, policy information and a general description of the company and the organization behind it.
