Micropayment
Also called: micropayment
A micropayment is a payment of a small amount of money, up to a few euros. Micropayments are mainly used on the Internet, where they may be required, for example, to access certain information or allow a donation to be made.
For example, micropayments can be handled by sending a text message with a certain content to a certain number. Here, the amount of the micropayment is settled through the mobile subscriber's phone bill or credit. There are also systems that are linked to a credit card, such as Mollie and MiniTix.
The advantage of micropayments, especially SMS payments, is their low threshold. Also, the transaction costs are quite low, unlike iDEAL, for example, which makes them more suitable for handling lower amounts.
