Heading ad
Also called: classified ad
A classified ad is a text ad in a newspaper or magazine in a specially designated section. Often the ads in such sections are classified by topic, as the term also indicates. Classified ads are referred to in English as classified ads or classifieds for short.
Classified ads are widely used in practice by individuals wishing to sell goods or place an appeal. In newspapers, sections for classified ads often reserve space for personals. Other products commonly offered through classified ads are cars, houses and other real estate.
Whether placement of a classified ad requires payment, or whether placement is free, can vary. Typically, classified ads, like "regular" ads, are a revenue model for publishers. The rate can vary by category. In newspapers, the price of an ad often depends on the number of words or number of letters.
With the advent of the Internet, some of the function of classified ads has moved to the Web. Many newspapers now publish their classified ads online as well. In addition, specialized websites have emerged where supply and demand are brought together, such as Marktplaats and Auto.nl.
