Brainstorming
In a brainstorm, by collecting ideas, participants collectively try to come up with solutions to problems. A brainstorm can also be conducted by a single individual, but it is precisely the interaction between different individuals that often leads to new insights that would not have emerged otherwise.
Brainstorming is widely used within project groups. They contribute to finding creative solutions and help ensure that all members of the project group feel involved in a project.
A brainstorming session often has a moderator, who is responsible for:
- Introducing the topic/problem;
- Define rules of brainstorming and enforce;
- Invite participants to share ideas;
- Collect and rank ideas;
- Invite participants to capitalize on each other's ideas;
- Monitor time and results.
The premise of a successful brainstorm is that any idea can be put on the table. Quantity is at least as important as quality. Even ideas that seem unrealistic at first glance can contribute to the brainstorm. Unusual ideas in particular can provide new insights.
