Advertising Block
Also called: commercial break
A commercial break is an interruption of regular programming on radio or television intended for the airing of commercials. This commercial break can be between two programs, or temporarily interrupt a program. In principle, only commercial stations interrupt programs for commercials.
Commercial breaks almost always consist of multiple commercials. The length can vary widely, from half a minute to sometimes up to five minutes. Often the blocks on primetime, when the highest ratings are achieved, are the longest.
The distinction between radio and television advertising during commercial breaks and during programs is referred to as spot and non-spot.
