Virtual Leadership
The meaning of the term virtual leadership is remote leadership. Here, the leader must manage a team using only digital communication facilities. Virtual leadership has very different requirements than physical leadership. Characteristics such as charisma, persuasiveness and natural superiority are much less important in virtual leadership. Connective leadership is the basis for virtual leadership. People must be intrinsically motivated to contribute to a greater whole that transcends their individual interests. Virtual leadership is primarily about organizing and inspiring and much less about controlling and directing. In this case, connecting is the central theme. The art is to release, focus and bundle human energy by leading by example and showing that he or she gets things done.
