Corporate clothing
Also called: professional wear, uniform, workwear or outfit
Company clothing is the special clothing worn by the employees of many companies while performing their jobs. The main possible reasons for using corporate clothing are visibility, recognizability, safety and representation. What corporate clothing looks like is determined by the nature of one's occupation and by the corporate identity of the organization being represented.
Visible and recognizable through corporate clothing
Personnel visibility is particularly important in positions where employees deal with people a lot in a service or authoritarian capacity. Think of flight attendants on an airplane or police officers on the street. When it comes to security services such as police and the armed forces, you can tell by the clothing that the person is actually performing his or her job.
Safety or just representation?
For many industries, occupational clothing also plays a role in safety. Think of camouflage clothing in the military, as well as safety clothing in the construction industry. Besides personal safety, hygiene can also be considered, such as the white clothing of a cook or the staff in a hospital.
In other professions, corporate clothing has more of a representative function. Examples include the neat uniform clothing of the employees of a hotel or restaurant and the tailored suit of a representative.
When industrial clothing is primarily for job recognition or personal safety when performing a particular job, it is often referred to as professional clothing.
Company clothing or dress code
When company clothing is applicable, it is almost always provided by the organization. The design, production, printing or embroidering of logos and the fitting of corporate or professional clothing can be outsourced to companies specialized in this field.
Even when company clothing is not used, an employer may, for reasons of representation or safety, impose certain requirements on the personal clothing worn by employees. These criteria are also called dress codes.
