Then, when I tell them that blogging is still terribly important, they actually always - ask why that is. I then answer that, besides the fact that blogging simply generates leads and sales (and is great fun), it has many other benefits.

And that's what I'm going to tell you all about in this article.

Reason 1: blogging improves your skills

I don't need to tell you that you only get better at something if you actually actively pursue it. So is the case with blogging.

But besides getting better at blogging itself, there are other skills you improve when you blog a lot:

  • You learn to write better
  • You get better at storytelling (telling a story)
  • Your communication skills improve (you share information with your target audience)

These are advantages because it makes you faster and better at communicating and conveying (digital) information in everyday life.

Reason 2: You learn more about the topic

As you may have seen, I blog about everything related to online marketing. I enjoy doing that because I love sharing my knowledge about it.

But I also blog because I want to know more about different topics. I want to know what other people think about it, I want to know what the advantages/disadvantages of something are, and I want to find out all the ins-and-outs.

And because you research the topic before writing about it, you thus increase your knowledge (and your readers see that, too!).

Reason 3: You gain more authority

When you start sharing information that is useful to others, they will see you as an authority in the market. After all, you understand your profession, you have a lot of knowledge and people are going to trust you.

So when they are looking for someone in your field, they will quickly choose you. In addition, you receive another form of authority by blogging.

This is because the blogs you post may be picked up by other parties. They may start sharing your blogs on social media or they may refer to your blog through a link.

And Google also likes that incredibly.

As more links are placed to websites, the authority of your website goes up. This ensures that you get higher positions in Google, which in turn results in more visitors.

Reason 4: Your website/business becomes more findable

When you start writing about a particular topic, your blog may just become findable on different terms. Therefore, it is extremely important to determine a keyword before you get started with the blog.

When you start blogging about why an electric bike is so nice and what the benefits of the bike are, people who google "electric bike benefits" may just end up on your blog.

And that way you can increase your organization's findability and brand awareness!

Reason 5: smarter people ask smarter questions

I firmly believe that when you make people smarter, they are going to ask smarter questions. When you give your target audience more information about the topic, they know more about the topic and they start asking more difficult questions.

This ensures that you and your readers both go to a higher level and your knowledge is significantly increased. In addition, this also makes it easier for you as a blogger.

After all, you can blog about more difficult topics and use more jargon.

Reason 6: blogs create leads

Marketing used to be all about sending: commercials, newsletters, ads, leaflets and so on. That doesn't work as well these days, people are less sensitive to it because of all the advertising these days.

Today, therefore, it mostly works the other way around: no content is pushed to the customer, but the customer searches for the content.

And that content, that's your blogs. That's why blogging is an incredibly powerful marketing tool you can use to attract visitors and potential customers to your website.

I would even venture to say that blogging is a kick-ass lead generator!

Reason #7: You are the helping hand

You've been in the field for years, you know all the ins-and-outs, and for you it's all cut-and-dried.

But for your reader, it may not be. In your lifetime, for example, you have changed thousands of bicycle tires, but your reader may have never done so.

If you write a good article about replacing a tire, you can make people incredibly happy. You help people get started and you create goodwill.

Reason 8: blogs create content on other channels

Not sure what to post on social media anymore?Running out of topics for your newsletter?

Then start blogging.

If you write 1 blog every week, you will always have content for the other channels.

For example, use a quote from the blog and post it on Facebook, use the photo from the blog and post it on Instagram, use the video from the blog and post it on YouTube, and post a paragraph from the blog on LinkedIn.

TIP: Recycle your content. Content you may reuseand and with blogs you have an awful lot of content to re-share.

Reason #9: Your website stays current

If you blog weekly, it ensures that website stays current. You show your visitors and the search engines that your website is alive and well, and you have the opportunity to share what you do and what you offer.

In addition, blogs make it easy to respond to current events. Is there something in the news that is relevant to your business? Write a blog about it!
