Most affiliate marketing examples fall into the following categories:

  • Websites with discount codes
  • Cashback websites
  • Websites offering free products
  • Review websites
  • Comparison websites
  • Websites with daily deals
  • Websites with regular content

Now surely there are more categories, some categories overlap or you can explain a category in multiple ways. But the above is how I see it.

Therefore, I explain all types of affiliate websites from the publisher's perspective. In other words, from you. At least, if you want to make money with affiliate marketing.

Discount code websites

Affiliate marketing with discount codes works very simply: people want to order a product and then quickly look for a discount code. You offer those discount codes. For example, with a button or link. People click on it and then order the product.

Then you get the commission because revenue was generated through your link.

Cashback websites

A cashback website is very similar to a discount code website. It works the same way: people who are in the payment process are looking for either a discount or a cashback promotion. Then they click on your cashback promotion and order the product. You as a publisher then get the commission.

The difference between a cashback website and a discount code website is that, as a publisher, you repay part (or all) of the commission in the form of credit or euros.

Often there is a catch if you refund the entire commission to the buyer. For example, visitors pay a yearly subscription to see your cashback promotions at all, or there are other conditions for using the promotion.

Website with free products

On a free products website, you will find ... yes, free products. These are mainly promotions / products that you get for free if you first purchase something else. And these are mainly subscriptions. For example, a first year free if you purchase a 3-year subscription.

Or a free installation of wifi when you subscribe to the Internet.

Review website

If you love electronics or testing tools, then a review website is your thing. On your website, for example, you write blogs about a TV or create a video about your favorite software.

You can do this on a personal basis, but you can also brand yourself as a company that writes reviews. People looking for a review on a specific product are often already a little deeper in the funnel. They already know what brand they want and what model.

They just need that one little push. And you can give that in your blog. Of course there will be a nice button they can click to purchase the product directly.

Comparison websites

A comparison website is much like a review website, but here the comparison is more central. And not so much the comparison between products themselves, but mainly a comparison between providers of those products.

Let me explain: suppose you are looking for certain Samsung TV. This TV is for sale at MediaMarkt, Coolblue and a few other webshops. On that TV's page, you see all the providers listed, including price, shipping costs, warranty, extras, etc.

As a visitor to a comparison website you can see at a glance where your product is for sale, who is the cheapest and who has the best terms. Also these people are already deep in the funnel so theoretically your affiliate links will get more clicks.

Websites with daily deals

A website with daily deals gives an overview of the deals that are available that day. On your website you collect products that are on sale from all kinds of web shops.

Daily offer websites often work very well with e-mail marketing. Because you can send the best offers every day or every week via email.

Websites with regular content

And then we come to the websites with regular content. Normal websites, that is. In my opinion, this includes blog websites, but also websites with static content.

Chances are that you will start with a regular content website first. This is because the other websites require more technical knowledge and are more difficult to set up.

So if you have a regular content website, your focus is primarily on content. And of course this can include reviews, but a regular content website is often a bit broader. Here you can share offers, make comparisons, review products and so on. Only this is often not automated, which is the case with a comparison website, for example.

Below I list some well-known affiliate marketing examples for you. Including an explanation of what they do in outline:

  • Compare.co.uk
  • Free.com
  • Tweakers.co.uk
  • Beslist.com
  • Experiencesite.com
  • Fashionchick.co.uk
  • Jas.co.uk
  • Zorgwijzer.nl
  • Vacation pirates.com
  • Gaslight.com

Compare.co.uk

Compare.co.uk, as the name suggests, is a classic example of a comparison website. You'll find a wide range of products in different categories on the website. Think of:

  • Image & sound
  • Cooking & dining
  • Baby & child
  • Jobs
  • Garden Products
  • Etc.

In all, there are 29 categories that contain products. And under those 29 categories there are hundreds of subcategories again. If you type site:compare.com into Google, you will see that the website has about 29,000 results. In other words, there are thousands of products on the website.

If you then click on a product, take for example the Airpods Pro, you will see where they are all for sale. You can filter, you will find the price history of the product as well as all the specifications.

Tweakers.co.uk

Tweakers.com is perhaps the most well-known comparison site in the field of electronics. You'll find reviews, comparisons, prices, price trends, features and more.

Tweakers' main main categories are:

  • Tablets and phones
  • Laptops and systems
  • TV and home theater
  • Audio
  • Cameras
  • Gaming
  • Components and peripherals
  • Smarthome
  • Household
  • Power Tools

Under that, in turn, there are many subcategories. The great thing about Tweakers is that they have 1 million products on the website and 2.5 million prizes. Therefore, it is also one of the most well-known affiliate websites.

Beslist.com

Beslist.nl is actually a mix of a publisher and an advertiser. This is because Beslist.nl is an affiliate website that redirects visitors to advertisers, but you can also sign up as a publisher from Beslist.nl (check it out: https://www.beslist.nl/information/info_affiliates.html).

Yes. Tad strange. I know.

Webshops that sign up with Beslist.nl pay based on CPC, and if you sign up as a publisher, you get a portion of that amount.

Currently there are more than 10,000 web shops affiliated with Beslist.nl and they have over 25 million products on their website. This makes them one of the largest affiliate websites.

There are currently 29 categories on the website, so chances are incredibly high that your niche is also present on the Beslist.com website.

Experiencesite.com

Ervaringensite.nl is a classic example of a review website. It is not a website that writes specific reviews about products, but about companies.

Consider, for example, the LOI, Hema and Sixt.

There are 19 categories on the website. From dating to fashion and from charities to financial. In total, there are over 3,950 businesses to be found on Ervaringensite.nl.

The goal of Ervaringensite.nl is to redirect you to the website of the company in question and hope that you take action afterwards. They do this with buttons, pop-ups, etc.

Fashionchick.co.uk

When you open Fashionchick's website, it looks like a regular webshop. Nice design, lots of categories, a "shop" in the menu and an overview of all the brands.

Then you also see lots of filters at the category level. When you arrive at the product page (it's not really a product page, but the cube unfolds on the page) you only notice: it's an affiliate website.

In fact, there you will see that you can go directly to the Bijenkorf or Nelson.

In addition to fashion, Fashionchick also focuses on beauty and lifestyle. And in addition to showcasing products on their website, there are also multiple ways to partner with them as an advertiser.

Jas.co.uk

Jas.nl is actually much the same as Fashionchick, but focuses only on coats. Jas.nl only looks a little less like a webshop, because they don't use certain elements and because they website feels a little less pretty.

Furthermore, you can also see that, between the blocks, they also have display ads.

Zorgwijzer.nl

Affiliate for products is of course obvious, but so is affiliate marketing for something like health insurance. Perhaps the most compared service in the Netherlands.

Zorgwijzer is a classic example of a comparison Web site. Namely, they compare health insurance policies. Within Zorgwijzer, you can filter on all sorts of things. Think price, additional coverage, hospitals and whether you pay the premium per month or per year.

They also call themselves an information website. That's kind of true, because if they are best at helping their visitors, then they are most likely to convert.

PS. Now, should you want to set up a website in the field of insurance, there are quite a few conditions you must meet. So find that out carefully first.

Vacation pirates.com

If there is one market in which many affiliate websites operate, it is the travel and vacation industry. There are many affiliate websites in the areas of:

  • Overnight
  • Renting cars
  • Flights
  • Or combinations of all of the above

And Vakantiepiraten.nl offers all that, too. You'll see an overview of deals here, as well as regular rates.

Gaslight.com

And we have arrived at the last example: Gaslicht.com. Gaslicht.com describes itself as an energy comparator.

This includes not only where your electricity or gas comes from, but also, for example, solar panels. .

You'll find an overview of the parties that cooperate with Gaslicht.com and you can compare them on many facets.

These are, as I indicated, mostly big players. But you also have small players.

I haven't shared my affiliate projects with large audiences yet, but I'm going to share one now anyway. Namely, I own Turkesterone.co.uk.

This is a regular content website. With a page where I also compare providers. I share this with you because you can't learn that much from the big players. Those are so far along and those teams are so big, that's really another level.

Turkesterone website

Today I earn between €50 and €200 per month with Turkesterone.nl. Turkesterone is still very unknown in the Netherlands and virtually nobody knows it or offers it.

So it was a risk to start with this. But on YouTube, turkesterone is becoming increasingly popular. So I very specifically did not choose an existing market, but capitalized on a trend that I expect is coming (I'll tell you more about this later).

Chances are very good that it will be nothing, but if turkesterone becomes as popular as other fitness supplements (e.g. creatine) then I will have the best domain name and be years ahead of the competitors.

Creatine is searched for 60,000 a month, so there really are millions involved in that on an annual basis. If you're number one there, that keyword alone gets you thousands of visitors a month. And I hope the same will happen for Turkesterone.nl.

If you look at Search Console you can see that turkesterone is getting a boost periodically. I expect the market to really grow when the big guys like Body & Fit and MyProtein start offering the product.

But so that's a bit of a wait....

What are examples of websites that use affiliate marketing?

There are many different types of websites that use affiliate marketing to make money. For example, blogs about fashion, beauty, travel and technology, comparison websites, coupon and discount code websites, and websites that offer product reviews and recommendations. Some examples are Coolblue, Kieskeurig.nl, Reisjunk.nl, Fashionchick.nl and Techradar.com.

How does affiliate marketing work for these websites?

Websites that use affiliate marketing make money by receiving commissions for each sale generated through their unique affiliate link. For example, if a blog post about a fashion item includes an affiliate link to a web shop, the blog owner receives a commission when a reader purchases the item through that link. The webshop can track sales through a tracking pixel on the affiliate's website.

How can websites improve their affiliate marketing strategies?

For example, to improve their affiliate marketing strategies, websites can partner with more affiliates, improve and optimize their promotional materials for search engines, and properly integrate their affiliate links into their content. In addition, they can analyze and optimize their performance by using tracking software, and communicate regularly with their affiliates to motivate and reward them for their performance.
