But did you know that in 2019 you can find plenty of alternatives that claim to be better and cheaper?
Having faithfully used Yoast for years (without considering another plugin), I now thought it was high time to research the best SEO plugins on the market.
Including Yoast, of course.
So see here: the 7 best WordPress SEO plugins listed for you.
With now millions of installations and 25,451 five-star ratings, Yoast is the most well-known and widely used SEO plugin available for download right now.
Yoast was the first in the field of SEO plugins on the market and has now more than earned its spurs....
In all the years I have been using Yoast, I have never had a problem with the plugin and the plugin has proven itself time and time again.
In 9/10 cases, free version of Yoast SEO is sufficient, but not always.
The following features can be found in the free Yoast plugin:
If you have the paid version, you get the following features included:
Enough about Yoast, we move on to the competitors!
If you read my blogs, you know I've written about SEOPress before.
When I first heard about SEOPress six months ago, I thought:
No, I will stay with Yoast.
But since SEOPress claims to be cheaper and better, I still thought it was worth testing the plugin.
Should you want to know what I think of the plugin?
Then read my my blog called 'SEOPress Review 2019: the ultimate Yoast alternative'
The conclusion of my SEOPress review is quite simple:
Are you thinking of purchasing Yoast Premium?
Then definitely go for SEOPress Pro.
This is because it is much cheaper and offers more options.
Don't want to spend money for your SEO plugin?
Then stay with Yoast, as you will have more features than the free version of SEOPress.
All In One SEO Pack is also a very well-known SEO plugin in WordPress and search engine optimization land.
With more than a million installations and an average of 4.5/5 based on 459 reviews, it also definitely belongs in this list.
All In One SEO Pack, like Yoast and SEOPress, has paid and free versions.
When you start looking at the price and features, I quickly find out that the All In One SEO Pack Premium variant is not necessarily necessary.
With the free version, you have plenty of features and capabilities.
The feature that I do really miss in the free version is that you cannot optimize categories and tags and provide them with a meta title and meta description, for example.
All In One SEO Pack is otherwise a very user-friendly plugin that is also extremely well-organized.
In the time I have been testing it, I have not encountered any problems.
And as for the price ...
which I find a tad on the high side.
A license for one website costs $68 dollars per year and a license for 10 websites costs $118 per year.
Then my preference is still SEOPress.
When Rank Math was first marketed, there were quite a few comments about the plugin.
Many bugs, many problems and features that did not work (properly).
In the months since, Rank Math has worked hard to improve the plugin and is on the rise.
The SEO plugin now has 80,000 installations and gets 4.9/5 stars based on 395 reviews.
How Rank Math scores so well?
Because there are an awful lot of useful features in the plugin, because it is incredibly user-friendly and is perhaps the most complete free WordPress SEO plugin.
In addition, another big advantage is that Rank Math is completely free, unlike its competitors.
I myself have also tried Rank Math for a while and I like it as a plugin, although sometimes opinions still seem to differ on that.
My advice to you: try Rank Math for a while on your WordPress website and see what you think.

We've been through the "big" guys by now and we now come to the lesser-known SEO plugins.
Before I continue, I want to give you something important to know: these three plugins I have not tested extensively for weeks/months myself, but only installed and tried them out briefly.
Therefore, I'm not going to advise you that you should install the plugins, I'm just going to tell you that they exist.
SEOPressor is a paid SEO plugin that costs $9 monthly.
This is actually disadvantage number one for me!
After all, I want to be able to use a free variant if needed.
Looking further at SEOPressor's website, I see many features that the aforementioned plugins also have.
I do notice that SEOPressor has less functionality than its competitors, although they do claim their plugin can do more.
So not entirely fair.
The SEO Framework now has more than 100,000 installations and scores an average of 5/5 stars based on 208 reviews.
This plugin is best known for its speed.
A number of tests have been done in the past showing that The SEO Framework has by far the least impact on the loading speed of your website.
And we know by now that Google considers the loading time of your website very important ;).
The big difference is that The SEO Framework looks a lot more minimalist, calm and simple than its competitors.
You have a number of tabs without too much frills, features and pictures.
Personally, I don't really like The SEO Framework.
It is a plugin that is really different from the rest.
But since the plugin has virtually no impact on the speed of your website, I'm going to test it extensively in the future anyway.
SEO Squirrly has the least number of installations of all these WordPress plugins, but still scores a 4.5/5 based on 445 reviews.
It is by far the most unique plugin from this list.
In fact, SEO Squirrly works differently than its competitors and is more than an SEO plugin.
In fact, it is also a plugin that helps you with your content strategy and keywords, for example.
SEO Squirrly has so many different functionalists and features, that I simply recommend you go to their website and take the time to test the plugin.
Well I am very curious: wEvery SEO plugin do you use within your website?
