Imagen
What is Imagen?
Google researchers have developed an AI tool that can create realistic images from text input. About this tool, called "Imagen," it is claimed that it can produce more realistic results than OpenAI's similar AI tool "DALL-E 2." In addition, Imagen is accessible to anyone with a computer and Internet connection. You only need to provide a description, and Imagen does the rest.
Why Imagen?
With Imagen, you can choose from an oil painting or a photorealistic image, the latter being more challenging to create with artificial intelligence. Imagen actually excels at this, according to its developers. It works based on a large language model, such as GPT-3, which is "frozen" to get the best results. The text input is then converted to images using a diffusion model. First, a small 64×64 pixel image is generated, which is then enlarged to 1024×1024 pixels using a super-resolution diffusion model. This allows Imagen to create convincing nonexistent images from sentences.
Imagen can dramatically change the artistic and design world by letting the AI system design based on the input we provide. Instead of one design, the system can generate thousands of different options.
