The year is already well over halfway through. That means we take another look at the market shares of different social media compared to three months ago. Which platform is growing the fastest? Where is there a decline? High time to take stock again....

Netherlands

NetherlandsMarch 2018June 2018
Facebook60,01%59,25%
Pinterest17,71%19,64%
Twitter8,14%8,30%
Instagram3,95%4,50%
Youtube5,77%4,08%

What do we see here? Facebook again lost market share last quarter. The younger generation in particular seems to be using Facebook less and less. They are slowly but surely switching to one of the relatively biggest risers: Instagram. Youtube also loses some market share, Pinterest gains a few percent and the number of active Twitter users remains fairly stable.

Europe

EuropeMarch 2018June 2018

Pinterest10,22%10,86%
Twitter5,81%6,77%
Instagram3,00%2,92%
Youtube5,73%5,79%

So how do things stand in Europe? Facebook is losing market share and Pinterest is up slightly. Across Europe, more people seem to be actively using Twitter. Remarkably, Instagram seems to be losing some market share, despite relatively large growth in the Netherlands. The number of active Youtubers also seems stable across Europe.

Germany

GermanyMarch 2018June 2018

Pinterest18,25%21,61%
Twitter3,39%4,49%
Instagram6,22%1,97%
Youtube6,75%6,83%

Looking at our eastern neighbors, one thing immediately stands out: Instagram's market share has plummeted by a whopping 4.25%! And unlike across Europe and the Netherlands, Facebook is actually experiencing a small increase. Twitter and Pinterest are also being used more and more in Germany, and Youtube's market share in Germany remains stable.

Belgium

BelgiumMarch 2018June 2018
Facebook65,72%63,97%
Pinterest20,81%22,57%
Twitter4,10%3,85%
Instagram1,44%2,56%
Youtube5,07%4,11%

The social media market share in Belgium follows a trend similar to that in the Netherlands. Facebook and Youtube are losing some, Twitter remains almost the same and Pinterest and Instagram are gaining relatively much ground compared to March.

Again, we are curious to see how this will develop....
